This is a little piece I wrote for ABC Open’s ‘Family Rituals’ writing challenge –

“It stood in the corner of our living room, gaudy and it has to be said, ugly. The Naw-Ruz ladder. It was both a mockery of the age-old traditions from which we had been spared, and a desperate attempt to create some ‘new’ traditions of our own…. ”
